Mag. Michael Köhler

born 1.9.1964

His passion for the seafaring began when he was 18 years old with a small boat, several cabin cruisers followed. His new hobby as well university the native Austrian financed by running some bars and restaurants. After his degree in law he began his apprenticeship at a classic square-rigged-schooner Under a Captain of the German navy he had to learn everything about seamanship from scratch.

Heavy weather sailing in the winter in the Baltic Sea and 10,000 nautical miles in North and South Atlantic, where the captain of the crew of only two men saved nothing in the drill, formed its base.

Then he made his hobby - the construction of the best blue-water-boat - his occupation. Always following the objective, to design a self sufficient boat, he deepened his studies in theoretical matter and then tested its reflection in practice. If a boat, according to his ideas, was finished, he sold it and started the next project. After several monohulls up to 65 feet (20 meters Jongert), he moved to the catamarans. Duzring the last 15 years he spent more than 3,000 days on board and sailed over 50,000 miles. There were days with 110 knot winds at sea and quiet days in turquoise lagoons - to find the ideal boat for both is his life's goal.

Currently he lives and works on a Fountaine Pajot catamaran in the Caribbean and prepares the next chapter of his life: the first circumnavigation in a solar-powered e-catamaran.

He has all necessary licenses and speaks German, English and a little Spanish, Portuguese and Italian.
